All is well that ENDS well!

It was nearly quarter to eight, and Rahul was getting late for school. He had missed the school bus as usual and was now waiting for his dad to get ready and drop him to school on his way to office.

“DAD! Please hurry up! Just twenty minutes left for the school gate to close”

His dad wasn’t the one to get moved by that. He had become sick and tired of telling Rahul to get ready on time. Moreover, the petrol wasted on these everyday trips to his school which was totally in the opposite direction, was something he didn’t approve of in this pitiless inflation.

“Oh god! Madam Rita would eat me up if I reach late again today.” Rahul was getting impatient in the mean time.

Finally, his dad was all set and ready to go.Relieved, Rahul hurriedly jumped into the car, even before his dad could take it out of the garage! Then He looked at his watch. Sixteen minutes to go.

“Faster,faster..Buck up..buck up my boy!” Rahul chanted breathlessly.

They would have reached just half way ,when all of a sudden, the car jerked and and came to a halt. Unfortunately, They had run out of fuel.

“Oh fish! What else can happen now?!” Rahul screamed.

Seeing his face, Rahul’s dad advised him to catch a rickshaw and go. As luck would have it, there was no rickshaw, taxi or anything in sight at the moment. So, Rahul decided it was better walk to school than waiting there. He walked and walked, hoping he’ll find a ride on the way. Tired,he looked again at the watch: 12 minutes to go!

Thankfully ,the school wasn’t far off now. Still, seeing the way his day was going, he didn’t want to take chances and so, he blindly sprinted in school’s direction. Just then a car whizzed past him,so fast that it nearly threw him off balance.

“Are you blind, you idiot?!” Rahul burst out.

But as he looked carefully in its direction, he noticed smoke coming out of the car’s dicky. It wasn’t much, but still the car was on fire! He started screaming for the driver to halt and take notice. He ran after the car as fast as he could and soon, nearby people also joined him, all yelling at the driver to stop. So now you could see a number of people, running behind a car madly and screaming all the way.

Finally, the driver took notice and halted. After all the commotion and confusion, it came out that the  driver was using gas cylinder as fuel for his car, which had caused the fire. Rahul didn’t have time to go more into details, as a look at his watch warned him that only five minutes were left.

” Oh shit! ”  Again, the mad race to school resumed.

All the way, Rahul prayed to god not to let madam Rita strike off his name from extempore contest, to be held in first period!

At last, he reached. But the gatekeeper was closing  the gate! Rahul swiftly slid past him into the school premises. Panting and falling, he reached his classroom. Luckily, madam Rita was busy making everyone stand quietly in a queue to go to the auditorium for extempore contest. Taking advantage of the opportunity,he quickly sneaked into the line, and thanked god all the way to the auditorium.

His hearty was still thumping wildly from all the stress, when he occupied his seat beside other contestants, as the first contestant for the day. He was least expecting what happened next:

The topic on which Rahul had to speak for a whole minute was- ‘Oil and natural gas-an extricable part of our lives today.’

Don’t you think one minute would be too short for our dear Rahul?!
